SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Shepherd University (2-0) to a 66-60 win over Millersville (1-1) at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday night.
Lang hit on 7-of-15 effort from the floor with a 4-of-10 performance form three-point range. He was 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Senior guard Derek McKnight (Teaneck, NJ/Gaston (N.C.) Day School/Louisburg CC) added 14 points, six assists, and five boards, while freshman guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) chipped in with five points and nine rebounds.
Jovante Lee scored 20 points to lead the Golden Knights. Victor Olawoye added 11 points.
Cyril Ogbuagu hit a free throw for Gannon with 1:41 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 55-55 and force the extra session. Shepherd outscored Gannon, 11-5, in overtime to gain the win.
Shepherd connected on 31.7 percent (20-63) from the floor with a 32.1 percent (9-28)
performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 85 percent (17-20) of their free throws.
Gannon shot 32.3 percent (20-62) from the floor with a 35 percent effort (7-20) from three-point range. The Golden Knights shot 65 percent (13-20) from the charity stripe.
Gannon had a 47-43 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Virginia Union for a 7 p.m. contest
