SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Gina Vallecorsa scored a game-high 30 points to lead California (Pa.) to a 78-50 win over Shepherd (2-1) in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday evening.
Vallecorsa hit on 10-of-14 field goals with an 8-of-8 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added four rebounds and three assists.
Senior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) led the Rams with 17 points. Sophomore forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 14 points and five boards, while senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) tossed in 12 points.
Ahmya Woodyard added 11 points for the Vulcans, while Jiahna Flood-Francis contributed nine points and four assists.
Shepherd shot 47.6 percent (20-42) from the floor with a 100 percent effort (3-3) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 70.8 percent (17-24) of their free throws.
California (Pa.) hit on 48.3 percent (28-58) from the floor with a 64.7 percent (11-17) performance from beyond the arc. The Vulcans connected on 78.6 percent (11-14) of their free throws.
California (Pa.) had a 32-23 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 17.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia State for a 2 p.m. contest.
