SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg handed Shepherd University a 3-0 setback in women's soccer action at Shippensburg in the season opener for both schools on Thursday afternoon.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead into the break behind a goal by K.K. O'Donnell on an assist from Beth McGee at the 18:31 mark.
Shippensburg added a pair of second-half tallies. Izzy Weigel scored on a header off a feed from McGee at the 68:55 mark and Taylor Moore scored on a pass from Weigel at the 75:24 mark.
Freshman goalkeeper Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (5) and classmate Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (4) combined for nine saves for the Rams. Delaney Shifflett posted a save for the Raiders.
Shippensburg had a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Kutztown for a 1 p.m. contest.
