SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan (6-1-0, 4-0-0 MEC) recorded a 2-0 win over Shepherd University (2-6-0, 1-3-0 MEC) in MEC women's soccer action at Shepherd on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead into the break as Natalie Parker scored on a pass from Hailey Ramirez in the game's first minute.
West Virginia Wesleyan added an insurance goal in the second half as Madison Lapole scored on a feed from Isabella Salas at the 73:57 mark.
Freshmen goalkeepers Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (4) and Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (7) combined for 11 saves for the Rams. Chelsea Hubner (4) and Ashlee Schumacher (1) teamed for five saves in goal for the Bobcats.
West Virginia Wesleyan had a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Glenville State for a 2 p.m. match.
