Shepherd Women’s Soccer Tops Glenville State

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore defender Katherine Eddy (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd University (1-2-0, 1-0-0 MEC) to a 4-0 win over Glenville State 0-2-0, 0-1-0 MEC) in MEC women's soccer action at Shepherd on Wednesday afternoon. The win gave Shepherd head coach Emily Hester her first career victory.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead into the break when Eddy scored on an assist from freshman forward Alyssa Lester (Bluefield, W.Va./Bluefield) at the 6:35 mark.

Freshman defender/midfielder Braden Pickett (Morgantown, W.Va./University) scored on a penalty kick at the 62:23 mark to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.

Eddy scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Emma Bernardoni (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) at the 72:08 mark and freshman forward Darien Ball (Charleston, W. Va./George Washington) added a tally on a feed from freshman midfielder Katelyn Hart (Monrovia, Md./Home Schooled) at the 75:38 mark to complete the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield)  (2) and classmates Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (2), and Caylin Clingan (Myersville, Md./Middletown) (1) combined for five saves in a shutout effort for the Rams. Hannah Beaty (8) and Morgan Smailes (6) teamed to record 14 saves for the Pioneers.

Shepherd had a 29-5 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Concord for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
