ATHENS, W.Va. – Madison May scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Riley Fitzwater added 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Concord (9-3, 5-2 MEC) to an 80-56 win over Shepherd (5-8, 2-5 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Concord on Thursday.
May connected on 11-of-14 field goals with a 2-of-2 performance from beyond the arc. She was 1-of-7 from the foul line. May added a game-high four steals.
Senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) paced the Rams with 16 points, while sophomore forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 13.
Freshman guard Angela DeLorenzo (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) added a career-high nine points and five boards off the bench, while freshman guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) dished out a game-high five assists.
Andreanna Pool was also in double figures for the Mountain Lions with 14 points.
Concord outscored Shepherd 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 41-26 lead into the break. The Rams would get no closer in the second half.
Shepherd shot 33.3 percent (21-63) from the floor with a 42.1 percent effort (8-19) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 75 percent (6-8) of their free throws.
Concord hit on 55.6 percent (35-63) from the floor with a 33.3 percent (5-15) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions connected on 55.3 percent (21-38) of their free throws.
Concord had a 45-38 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 17 turnovers and committed 18.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to UVa-Wise for a 2 p.m. contest.
