Shepherd Football Runs Past Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd (3-2, 1-1 PSAC East) rushed for 340 yards and six touchdowns en route to a 62-28 win over Lock Haven (1-4, 0-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Lock Haven on Thursday night.

Lock Haven took a 7-0 lead when Gabe Ocker scored on a six-yard run with 10:51 left in the first quarter.

Shepherd answered back when senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) raced 75 yards for a score with 10:30 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7. Junior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.

The Bald Eagles took a 14-7 lead when Chantz Swartz ran 87 yards for a score with 8:54 left in the first quarter.

Shepherd tied the game when sophomore running back Ty Hebron (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) scored on a one-yard plunge with 7:01 left in the quarter.

Shepherd took a 21-14 lead when freshman wide receiver Zane Lewis (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) fielded a punt at his own 33-yard line, cut back, and raced 67 yards for a score with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

The Rams took a 28-14 lead when Glover scored on a one-yard run with 30 seconds left in the first quarter.

Freshman running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) scored on a six-yard run with 13:12 left in the second quarter to extend the lead to 35-14.                                                

Lock Haven cut the deficit to 35-21 when Swartz scored from one yard out with 6:17 left in the second quarter.

Shepherd took a 38-21 lead on a 34-yard field goal with 10:31 left in the third quarter.

The Rams extended their lead to 45-21 seconds later when junior defensive lineman Ricky Robinson (Matthias, W.Va./East Hardy) forced a fumble and sophomore defensive back Antonio Fox (Germantown, Md/Seneca Valley) recovered the fumble and rambled six yards into the end zone.

August Scriven added a 23-yard field goal with three seconds left in the third quarter to up the lead to 48-21.

Ocker tossed a three-yard scoring pass to Camron Abalos with 8:04 left in the contest to cut the lead to 48-28.

Freshman quarterback Christian Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./Westminster) raced 27 yards down the sideline for a score with 7:16 remaining to increase the lead to 55-28.

Hebron scored on an 11-yard run with 2:16 remaining to complete the scoring.

Etchison completed 10-of-17 passes for 137 yards in his first career start. Ocker completed 7-of-14 passes and a score for the Bald Eagles.

Junior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) rushed 12 times for 172 yards to pace the Rams. Brown added 14 carries for 96 yards. Swartz rushed 22 times for a game-high 173 yards for Lock Haven.

Senior wide receiver Dylan Brewer (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) had three catches for 40 yards to pace the Shepherd receivers. Jalen Jackson had three catches for 64 yards for the Bald Eagles.

Shepherd had 477 yards of total offense, while Lock Haven totaled 376.

Junior defensive back Ponce DeLeon (Greenbelt, Md./Montgomery Blair) and senior cornerback Chris Jones (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) each recorded six solo tackles to lead the Shepherd defense. Alex Welch had a game-high 11 tackles (eight solos) for the Bald Eagles.

The Rams return to action on Oct. 12 when they host Shippensburg for a noon game at Ram Stadium.
