BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a game-high 31 points to lead Shepherd University (2-1) to an 85-65 win over West Virginia Wesleyan (0-4) in men's basketball action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night.
Lang hit on 10-of-14 field goals with an 8-of-11 effort from three-point range. He was 3-of-3 from the foul line. Lang added a team-high six rebounds and four assists.
Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 17 points, while sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) had nine points and a game-high six assists.
Dusan Vicentic led the Bobcats with 16 points. Ross Young added 10 points, while Clay Todd contributed nine points and eight rebounds
Shepherd had a 43-26 lead at the break as Daggett (12), Lang (9), and Preston (8) combined for 29 first-half points.
The Rams led by as many as 29 points in the second half.
Shepherd connected on 52.6 percent (30-57) from the floor with a 55.9 percent (19-34) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 100 percent (6-6) of their free throws.
West Virginia Wesleyan shot 38.6 percent (27-70) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (6-30) from three-point range. The Bobcats shot 83.3 percent (5-6) from the charity stripe.
Shepherd had a 34-33 edge on the boards. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Frostburg State for a 4 p.m. game at the Butcher Center.
