Shepherd Women Rally Past Lincoln

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Freshman  guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) scored a career-high 29 points to lead Shepherd (3-0) to a 77-72 overtime win over Lincoln (3-1) in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday evening.

Beeman connected on 10-of-17 field goals with a 7-of-11 effort from the charity stripe. She was 2-of-2 from the line. Beeman handed out three assists and added four steals.

Junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 14 points, while junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots.

DeAshia Young scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Lions. Kwanza Murray tossed in 20 points, while Alisia Machado had four points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Lincoln had a 31-26 lead at halftime.

Shepherd took its first lead of the second half at 46-44 when Beeman drained a three-pointer with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter. A see-saw battle ensued. Shepherd had a four-point lead at 61-57 after sophomore guard Madi White (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) hit a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left.

Lincoln got a three-pointer from Murray with seven seconds left to get the Lions to within a point. Clayton hit 1-of-2 free throws with six seconds remaining and Young hit a layup with four seconds left to force overtime.

A three-point play by McLaughlin with seven seconds left in overtime gave the Rams a 75-72 lead. Clayton added a pair of free throws with three seconds left to seal the win.

Shepherd shot 41 percent (25-61) from the floor with a 41.9 percent effort (13-31) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 77.8 percent (14-18) of their free throws.

Lincoln hit on 38.8 percent (26-67) from the floor with a 27.3 percent effort (6-22) from three-point range for the game. The Lions connected on 63.6 percent (14-22) of their free throws.

Lincoln had a 45-35 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 20 turnovers and committed 22.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 2 p.m. contest.
