ELKINS, W.Va. – Junior forward
Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) scored a game -high 28 points to lead Shepherd (4-0) to a 95-85 win over Davis & Elkins (0-4) in women's basketball action at Davis and Elkins on Saturday.
Clayton hit on 12-of-16 field goals with a 4-of-5 effort from the foul line.
Junior guard
Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 17 points, while freshman guard
Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) added 15 points and a game-high 11 assists. Freshman guard
Jordan Smith (Manassas, Va./Colgan) was also in double figures with 14 points.
Jamiyah Johnson scored 22 points to lead the Senators. Jay Kilpatrick added 18 points.
Shepherd shot 58.5 percent (38-65) from the floor with a 52.6 percent effort (10-19) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 61.5 percent (8-13) of their free throws.
Davis & Elkins hit on 41.9 percent (26-62) from the floor with a 50 percent effort (9-18) from three-point range for the game. The Senators connected on 82.1 percent (23-28) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 35-34 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 17 turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Frostburg State for a 7 p.m. game.
