SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 24-of-30 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns to lead Shepherd (7-2, 5-1 PSAC East) to a 76-34 win over East Stroudsburg (5-4, 2-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
East Stroudsburg took a 7-0 lead when Ben Moser fired a 75-yard scoring pass to Rece Bender with 14:49 left in the first quarter.
Shepherd answered back when senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) sprinted 75 yards for a score seconds later. Junior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.
The Rams took a 14-7 lead when Glover scored on a one-yard run with 11:28 left in the first quarter.
Sophomore running back Ty Hebron (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) raced 70 yards for a touchdown with 9:08 to up the Shepherd lead to 21-7.
Bagent teamed with senior wide receiver Devin Phelps (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances) on a seven-yard scoring play with 4:21 left in the first quarter.
Bagent connected with junior tight end Alex Wetzel (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) on a three-year scoring pass with 12:46 left in the second quarter to give the Rams a 34-17 lead.
Jake Cirillo fired a 38-yard scoring strike to Bender to cut the lead to 34-14 with 10:21 left in the second quarter.
Bagent tossed a 26-yard scoring pass to senior tight end DJ Cornish (Milford, Del./Lake Forest) with 5:25 left in the half.
Cirlillo tossed a 14-yard scoring pass to Ezequiel Lopez with 3:55 remaining in the half.
Glover ran 82 yards for his third score of the day with 3:38 left in the second quarter.
Bagent tossed an eight-yard scoring pass to senior wide receiver Dylan Brewer (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) with 36 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 55-21 lead at the break.
Bender scored on a 76-yard punt return for the Warriors with 12:40 left in the third quarter to open up the second half scoring.
Bagent and Brewer teamed on a 42-yard scoring pass with 10:11 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 62-28 lead.
Freshman running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) scored on a two yard run with 3:27 left to close out the third quarter scoring.
Jordan Walter connected on field goals of 27 and 47 yards for East Stroudsburg and Brown scored on a three-yard plunge for the Rams in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
Glover rushed 11 times for a career-high 220 yards to pace the Rams. Hebron added eight carries for 111 yards and Brown had 12 carries for 80 yards. Devante Robinson rushed 15 times for 61 yards to lead the Warriors.
Junior wide receiver Rodney Dorsey (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) led the Shepherd receivers with seven catches for 37 yards. Brewer added four receptions for 88 yards. Bender had four catches for 129 yards to pace East Stroudsburg.
Shepherd amassed 755 yards of total offense with 460 rushing yards. East Stroudsburg had 369 total yards.
Junior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) led the Shepherd defense with eight stops (five solos) and a sack. Senior linebacker Hassan Marshall (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) added five tackles. Sophomore defensive back Antonio Fox (Germantown, Md/Seneca Valley) led the secondary with two interceptions. Symear Williams and Andre Gray each had seven tackles for the Warriors.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 2 p.m. contest.
Notes: Shepherd's 76 points set the school mark for most points in a game, surpassing the old mark of 70 set against West Virginia State in 2016 … the Rams also totaled 11 touchdowns on the day to surpass the old mark of 10 against State in 2016 … the 110 points scored by both teams breaks the old mark of 103 (Shepherd 54 Notre Dame 49, 2017) … Hayden August-Scriven tied the single game mark for most extra points with 10 (ties Zach Wise vs. WV State, 2016) ... Shepherd now holds a 4-3 edge in the all-time series.
