Glover Leads Shepherd Football Past Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) rushed 19 times for 135 yards and five touchdowns to lead Shepherd (8-2, 6-1 PSAC East) to a 42-35 win over Bloomsburg (4-6, 3-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Bloomsburg on Saturday.

Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Glover raced 44 yards for a score with 13:55 left in the first quarter.  Junior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.

Glover broke a tackle and scored on an eight-yard run with 5:18 left in the first quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 14-0.

Logan Leiby tossed a six-yard scoring pass to Michael Allen with 13:28 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-7.

Glover scored his third touchdown of the day on a four-yard run to up the lead to 21-7 with 10:04 left in the quarter.

Leiby tossed a 21-yard scoring pass to Nyfease West with 7:05 left in the second quarter.

The Huskies tied the game at 21-all when Leiby ran 21 yards with 47 seconds left in the half.

Leiby teamed with Allen on a yard scoring strike to give the Huskies a 27-21 lead with 28-21 advantage with 9:48 left in the third quarter.

The Rams tied the game when Glover scored on a three-yard run with 34 seconds left in the third quarter.

West scored on a two-yard run to give the Huskies a 35-28 lead with 12:28 left in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) fired a 46-yard scoring strike  to senior wide receiver Devin Phelps (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances) with 11:15 remaining to cut the lead to 35-34. The extra point attempt was blocked.

Glover scored his fifth touchdown of the day on a three-yard run with 5:31 remaining. Bagent found Brewer in the back of the end zone for a successful two-point conversion to give the Rams the 42-35 advantage.

Sophomore defensive back Donnell Howard (Temple Hills, Md/Potomac) picked off Leiby at the Shepherd eight-yard line with 39 seconds in the game to seal the win for the Rams.

Bagent completed 30-of-39 passes for 336 yards and a score. Leiby was 16-of-29 for 187 yards for the Huskies.

West rushed 11 times for 54 yards to lead the Huskies. Khalil Nelson added 44 yards on 13 carries..

Graduate student wide receiver Dylan Brewer (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) led the Shepherd receivers with 13 receptions for 134 yards. Phelps added seven catches for 130 yards. Allen had eight catches for 132 yards for the Huskies.

Shepherd amassed 476 yards of total offense. Bloomsburg had 298  total yards.

Junior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) led the Shepherd defense with a game-high 10 stops (six solos) and a sack. Chris Monaco had six tackles to lead the Huskies.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Seton Hill for a noon contest.

Notes: Glover's five rushing touchdowns tie the Shepherd single game mark set by Dervon Wallace against West Virginia State in 2007 … Glover ran for 100 yards or more for the fourth time this season … Phelps now has nine touchdown grabs on the season … Bagent broke his single season mark for completions (253 in 2018) as he now has 269 … Bagent (6,300) went over 6,000 passing yards for his career.
