ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst handed Shepherd (6-0, 1-0) an 84-80 setback in PSAC women's basketball action at Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort)scored a game-high 23 points for the Rams. Beeman hit on 8-of-14 field goals with a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-4 from the foul line. She contributed four assists and four rebounds.
Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 20 points, while junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) tossed in 17. McLaughlin grabbed a game-high seven rebounds Sophomore guard Madi White (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) added a career-high 11 points off the bench.
Emily Shopene scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures for the Lakers. Amber Renz added 13 points, Lauren Lapertosa had 12, and Vivian Allison fired in 11.
Shepherd shot 61.1 percent (33-54) from the floor with a 62.6 percent effort (7-11) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 53.8 percent (7-13) of their free throws.
Mercyhurst hit on 47.5 percent (29-61) from the floor with a 42.9 percent effort (9-21) from three-point range for the game. The Lakers connected on 70.8 percent (17-24) of their free throws.
Mercyhurst had a 32-30 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed 16.
The Rams return to action on Dec. 2 when they host Alderson Broaddus for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
