SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a career and game-high 42 points to lead Shepherd University (1-1) to an 85-79 win over Bowie State (1-1) at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday
Lang hit on 10-of-23 field goals with a 7-of-14 effort from three-point range. He was 15-of-15 from the foul line.
Sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 17 points. While junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) added eight.
Saiquan Jamison led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Cameron Hayes added 15 points, while Juwan Smith added 12.
Shepherd connected on 40.3 percent (25-62) from the floor with a 37.5 percent (12-32) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 85.2 percent (23-27) of their free throws.
Bowie State shot 50.9 percent (27-53) from the floor with a 37.5 percent effort (5-14) from three-point range. The Bulldogs shot 71.4 percent (20-28) from the charity stripe.
Bowie State had a 38-31 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 19 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. contest.
