Shepherd Women Fall to #11 Indiana (Pa.)

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  –  Justina Mascaro scored a team-high 23 points to lead four players in double figures as 11th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) (9-1, 4-0) handed Shepherd (8-2, 2-2)  a 91-76 a setback in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday evening.

Freshman  guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort)  scored a game-high 35 points to pace the Rams. She connected on 13-of-21 field goals with a 4-of-10 effort from beyond the arc.  She was 5-of-7 from the foul line. Beeman added a game and career-high eight steals.

Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 18 points and  a game-high 13 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season.  Junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield)  was also in double figures with 12 points.

Natalie Myers added 21 points and 11 rebounds for IUP. Lexi Griggs had 18 points, while Maura D'Anna tossed in 13.

Shepherd trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half. The Rams rallied to with 10 points twice in the game's final minutes, but would could get no closer.

Shepherd shot 38.2 percent (23-60) from the floor with a 26.1 percent effort (6-23) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 82.8 percent (24-29) of their free throws.

IUP hit on 57.2 percent (32-56) from the floor with a 47.8 percent effort (11-23) from three-point range for the game. The Crimson Hawks connected on 76.2 percent (16-21) of their free throws.

IUP had a 36-30 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 23 turnovers and committed 18. Shepherd recorded 15 steals, while IUP had 10.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Seton Hill at 4 p.m.
