WHEELING, W.Va. – Sixth-seeded Shepherd University volleyball team (29-6) downed third-seeded East Stroudsburg (29-7) in five sets in first round action of the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Atlantic Regionals at Wheeling University on Thursday afternoon. The Rams posted a 27-25, 20-25, 25-16, 19-25, 15-10 triumph.
Shepherd's senior duo of Peyton Lindblad (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) (18) and Cambriea Hill (Columbia, Md./Hammond) (13) and combined to post 31 kills to lead the Rams. Hill added 11 digs and Lindblad had a match-high three aces.
Senior outside hitter Seone Goode (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) added 11 kills and junior middle hitter Nicole Murray (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) contributed six kills and a match-high .312 attack percentage.
Murray had six blocks, while sophomore middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) added five.
Junior setter Jessica Karcz (Westminster, Md./Westminster) had 48 assists and 21 digs. Senior libero Imani Major (Gainesville, Va./Millbrook) recorded a match-high 28 digs.
Jasmine Mooney had 14 kills, while Sarah Smith and Trea-sure Ketter each had 10 for the Warriors.
Lindblad had five kills and Hill recorded four kills and the match-clinching ace in the fifth set to help lift the Rams to the win.
The Rams advance to face second-seeded Gannon on Friday at 5 p.m.
Notes: Major (2,021), the program's all-time leader in digs, went over 2,000 for her career … Lindblad upped her career kills total to 1,404 … Hill increased her career kills total to 1,158 … Shepherd improves to 1-1 in NCAA II regional action … Shepherd's 29 wins on the year tie the 2002 team for the third most in program history.
