SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) drained a half court three-pointer with 0.6 seconds left in overtime to lift Shepherd University (4-3, 1-2) to an 83-80 win over Slippery Rock (4-4, 1-2) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The dramatic win gave the Rams their first-ever PSAC victory.
Daggett fired in a career-high 21 points to pace the Rams. He connected on 8-of-14 field goals with a 1-of-2 effort from beyond the arc. He drained 4-of-5 free throws.
Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added 20 points, while junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) tossed in a career-high 18.
Freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) was in double figures with 13, while sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Donovan Walker scored a game-high 22 points to lead Slippery Rock. Will Robinson Jr. added 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Deontae Robertson had 15 points and 12 boards. Jared Armstrong was also in double figures with 18 points.
Shepherd had a 33-28 lead at the half as McClain-Corley (10) and Jones (9) teamed up to score 19 first half points.
Shepherd trailed by three points late in regulation, but Lang drained a three-pointer with 16 seconds left to force the extra session.
The Rams took a 78-77 lead after a layup by Daggett with 1:02 left in overtime. Lang added a pair of free throws with 29 seconds left to up the lead to 80-77, but Robinson drained a three-pointer from the corner with three seconds left for The Rock to tie the game and set the stage for Daggett's game-winner.
Shepherd connected on 44.6 percent (29-65) from the floor with a 43.8 percent (14-32) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 68.8 percent (11-16) of their free throws.
Slippery Rock shot 48.5 percent (33-68) from the floor with a 35 percent effort (7-20) from three-point range. The Rock shot 70 percent (7-10) from the charity stripe.
Slippery Rock had a 43-32 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed five.
The Rams return to action on Dec. 15 when they host Wilson College for a 4 p.m. contest.
