SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Madison May scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Concord (18-5, 13-4 MEC) to an 80-74 win over Shepherd (11-12, 8-9 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday.
Senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State), sophomore guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield), and freshman guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) each scored 16 points to lead the Rams. Myers, who also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, posted a career-high scoring effort.
Senior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) contributed 10 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.
Andreanna Pool had 18 points, while Emily Boothe added 11 points and five assists for the Mountain Lions. Tamra Scott posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Shepherd had a 37-27 lead at halftime as Myers (10) and McLaughlin (9) combined for 19 first-half points.
Shepherd held a 53-48 lead after three quarters, but Concord outscored Shepherd 32-to-21 in the final stanza to rally for the victory.
Shepherd shot 44.6 percent (29-65) from the floor with a 33.3 percent effort (4-12) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 75 percent (12-16) of their free throws.
Concord hit on 43.1 percent (25-58) from the floor with a 31.3 percent (5-16) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions connected on 73.5 percent (25-34) of their free throws.
Concord had a 41-35 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed nine.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise at 2 p.m.
