Shepherd Women Top Wheeling Jesuit; Tibbs Sets Three-Point Mark

WHEELING, W.Va. – Senior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West  York Area) and senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State)  each scored 19 points to lead Shepherd (11-9, 8-6 MEC)  to a 79-65 win over Wheeling Jesuit (3-17, 1-13 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

Lankford connected on 7-of-11 field goals with a 5-of-6 effort from the foul line. She added game highs of nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Tibbs hit on 6-of-13 field goals with a 2-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.  Tibbs set a Shepherd single-season mark with 61 three-pointers on the season. She breaks the old mark of 59 that she shared with Morgan Arden (2017-18) and Katie Biggs (2011-12).

Sophomore forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's)  tossed in 14 points, while senior forward Liz Moormann (New Market, Md./Oakdale) added 10.

Lauren Lipscomb led the Cardinals with 17 points. Taliah Cashwell had 13 points and Khira Burton had 12.

Shepherd had a 39-38 lead at halftime as Tibbs (8) and Lankford (8) teamed for 16 first-half points.

The Rams led the game throughout the entire second half.

Shepherd shot 55.6 percent (30-54) from the floor with a 42.9 percent effort (3-7) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 80 percent (16-20) of their free throws.

Wheeling Jesuit hit on 40 percent (24-60) from the floor with a 25 percent (5-20) performance from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 80 percent (12-15) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 33-31 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Notre Dame for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
