SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg (2-0) outscored Shepherd, 6-2, in the second half en route to a 9-4 win over the Rams (0-2) in women's lacrosse action at Shippensburg on Wednesday.
Junior attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) scored a game-high three goals to lead the Rams. Freshman midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) added a single tally. Funke added five draw controls.
Junior midfielder Mallory Davila (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and sophomore attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) each had single assists.
Kyra Shank, Alana Cardaci, and Madi Newman each scored a pair of goals for the Raiders.
Shippensburg closed the first half on a 2-0 run to take a 3-2 lead into halftime.
Shippensburg held a 38-17 edge in shots and a 9-6 advantage in draw controls. The Raiders held a 34-26 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd was 23-of-28 in clears, while Shippensburg was 20-of-25.
Freshman goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 20 saves for the Rams to set a Shepherd single game mark, eclipsing the old record of 19 set by Casey Hickman against Wheeling Jesuit on April 20, 2018. Shaely Gamble had 11 saves for the Raiders.
The Rams return to action on Friday, March 8 when they host Alderson Broaddus at 4 p.m. at Ram Stadium.
