Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Tops Alderson-Broaddus

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) had eight goals and one assist to lead Shepherd (1-2) to a 21-11 win over Alderson Broaddus (0-6) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Friday.

Funke's eight goals are a new career-high effort. She added a game-high 13 draw controls, which are one shy of the school record of 14 that she set against Ursuline last season. She also added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Sophomore attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added three goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Mallory Davila (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's  Ryken) and freshman defender/midfielder Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) each added a pair of goals and an assist.

Junior attacker Megan Dusci Walkersville, Md./Walkersville/Frederick CC) added freshman midfielder Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) each tallied a pair of goals, while sophomore attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) had a goal and three assists. Freshman midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) added a single tally and junior attacker Emily Brown (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) contributed an assist.

Brooke Dinehart had three goals for the Battlers. Alison Rogers, Krista Cooper, and Taheera Rodgers each added a pair of goals.

Shepherd jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first half and took a 9-4 lead into the break. The Rams closed the game on a 5-0 run to pull away for the victory.

Shepherd held a 38-25 edge in shots and had a 20-13 advantage in draw controls. The Rams held a 32-23 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd was 19-of-29 in clears, while Alderson Broaddus was 20-of-26.

Freshman goalkeepers Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (6 saves)  and Jordan Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) (2) combined for eight saves for the Rams. Emily Barker had eight saves for the Battlers.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Millersville for a 4 p.m. match.
