Shepherd Women Outlasted by #20 Glenville State

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Re'Shawna Stone  scored 22 points  and Ty Armstrong added 16 to lead 20th-ranked Glenville State (25-2, 20-1 MEC) to an 85-66 win over Shepherd (11-16, 8-13 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night on Senior Night.

Senior forward Liz Moormann (New Market, Md./Oakdale) scored a career and game-high 24 points to pace the Rams. She. was 12-of-21 from the floor and 0-3 from the line. She added a game-high 11 rebounds.

Senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) added 14 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West  York Area) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Lankford's 10 assists on the night give her 190 for the season. This breaks the Shepherd single season mark of 182 set by Cara Mason in 2016-17.

Emily Stoller added 13 points and a game-high four steals for the Pioneers. Courtney Davis added nine points and six boards.

Glenville State had a 44-32 lead at halftime.

The Rams trailed by only eight points at 72-64 after a layup by Moormann with 4:06 remaining in  the game, but the Pioneers finished the game on a 13-2 run to pull away for the win.

Shepherd shot 46.2 percent (30-65) from the floor with a 14.3 percent effort (1-7) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 50 percent (5-10) of their free throws.

Glenville State hit on 33.3 percent (29-87) from the floor with a 23.4 percent (11-47) performance from beyond the arc. The Pioneers connected on 84.2 percent (16-19) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 50-48 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed 23.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 2 p.m. game.
