URBANA, Ohio – Megan Beachy scored a game-high 21 points to lead Urbana (3-17, 3-13 MEC) to an 82-51 win over Shepherd (11-11, 8-8 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Urbana on Saturday. Senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) (1,006) tossed in 11 points to go over 1,000 points for her Shepherd career.
Beachy connected on 8-of-11 field goals with a 3-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. She was 2-of-63 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) led the Rams with 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) contributed nine points, six assists, and six rebounds.
Erin Morrow added 12 points and six rebounds, while Sylvia Hudson had 11 points and seven boards for the Blue Knights.
Urbana had a 33-21 lead at the break.
The Blue Knights outscored Shepherd 27-to-7 in the third quarter and the Rams were unable to recover.
Shepherd shot 32.8 percent (20-61) from the floor with a 17.6 percent effort (3-17) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 40 percent (8-20) of their free throws.
Urbana hit on 48.4 percent (30-62) from the floor with a 45 percent (9-20) performance from beyond the arc. The Blue Knights connected on 76.5 percent (13-17) of their free throws.
Urbana had a 47-36 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 20.
The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Concord at 5:30 p.m.
