SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Kate Calder scored an unassisted goal with 3:32 remaining to lift Wheeling Jesuit (4-3, 1-0 MEC) to a 14-13 win over Shepherd (3-4, 0-1 MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Friday.
Junior attacker/midfielder
Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro), sophomore attacker
Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley), and freshman defender/midfielder
Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) each had three goals to lead the Rams. Funke also added five draw controls.
Junior midfielder
Mallory Davila (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) added two goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker
Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) had one goal and three assists. Freshman midfielder
Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) added a single tally.
Taylor Booth, Paige Orbell, and Ally Coggins each netted three goals for the Cardinals.
Shepherd closed the first half on a 4-1 run as the game was knotted at 6-6 at halftime.
Shepherd took a 13-10 advantage after Brown scored her second consecutive goal with 8:38 remaining. The Cardinals closed the game on a 4-0 run to rally for the win.
Shepherd held a 34-30 edge in shots and held a 16-13 edge in draw controls. The Rams held a 25-20 edge in ground balls. Shepherd was 13-of-23 in clears, while Wheeling Jesuit was 14-of-18.
Freshman goalkeeper
Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) had 11 saves for the Rams. Elizabeth Hanks (33) and Emma Stair (1) teamed for 14 saves for the Cardinals.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Notre Dame for a noon contest.
