CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Junior attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) scored seven goals and sophomore attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added four goals and three assists to lead Shepherd (5-4, 2-1 MEC) to a 16-7 win over Charleston (2-6, 0-2 MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at Charleston on Friday. Funke (103) went over 100 goals for her career.
Junior midfielder Mallory Davila (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) added two goals and an assist, while freshman defender/midfielder Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods), freshman defender Juliana Barco (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill), and freshman midfielder Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) each added single tallies. Junior attacker Emily Brown (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) notched an assist. Davila added a match-high seven draw controls.
Isabelle Pisani had three goals while Emma Renda and Brianna Rock each netted a pair of goals for the Golden Eagles.
Shepherd rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take an 8-4 lead into the break.
Shepherd held a 34-24 advantage in shots, while Charleston had a 14-11 edge in draw controls. The Rams held a 26-23 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd was 12-of-19 in clears, while Charleston was 12-of-18.
Freshman goalkeepers Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) had nine saves for the Rams. Kyra Tye had 14 saves for the Golden Eagles.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to UVa-Wise. First draw is slated for 1 p.m.
