WHEELING, W.Va. -- Junior attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) had seven goals and an assist while junior midfielder Mallory Davila (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) netted five goals to lead Shepherd (7-5, 4-2 MEC) to a 16-14 win over Wheeling Jesuit (8-5, 4-2 MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at Wheeling Jesuit on Friday.
Funke also recorded nine draw controls, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. Davila added five draw controls and thee ground balls.
Junior attacker Megan Dusci (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville/Frederick CC) recorded three goals and sophomore attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) had a goal and four assists. Sophomore attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) contributed three assists.
Kate Calder and Paige Orbell each scored four goals for the Cardinals. Ally Coggins added two goals and an assist.
Shepherd rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 9-8 lead into the break.
The Cardinals opened the second half on a 3-1 run to take an 11-10 lead. Shepherd took the lead for good at 14-13 when Dusci scored on a feed from Brown with 8:07 remaining.
Wheeling Jesuit had a 40-32 advantage in shots, while Shepherd had a 19-12 advantage in draw controls. The Cardinals held a 29-25 edge in ground balls. Shepherd was 13-of-15 in clears, while Wheeling Jesuit was 16-of-19.
Freshman goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 16 saves for the Rams. Emma Stair posted eight saves for the Cardinals.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Notre Dame for a 1 p.m. match.
