SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (27-10, 17-3 MEC) swept West Liberty (8-25, 7-13 MEC) in MEC doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Thursday. The Rams gained a 17-2 victory in game one and added a 12-5 win in the nightcap.
Senior first baseman Eddie Nottingham (Windsor Mill, Md./Mt. St. Joseph's/Catonsville CC) went 4-for-4 with eight RBI and three runs scored to lead a 12-hit attack for the Rams in game one. Nottingham hit for the cycle and belted a two-run blast in the fourth.
Shepherd also a two-run homer from junior outfielder Brenton Doyle (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) and solo blasts from sophomore designated hitter Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) and junior second baseman Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro/UMBC).
Junior pitcher Mitchell Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James School/UMBC) (5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 K, 2 BB) (6-1) earned the win for the Rams. Parker Dyson (3.0 IP, 7 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (3-6) took the loss.
The Rams belted five home runs in the nightcap victory.
Junior shortstop Trenton Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) went 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored to pace the Rams. He hit a three-run blast and a solo homer.
The Rams got two-run round-trippers from Keer and Nottingham and a solo blast by sophomore outfielder Jared Carr (Martinsburg, W.Va./St. James School).
Senior starter Ryan Potts (Owings, Md./Northern) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 7 K, 3 BB) (6-2) earned the win for the Rams. Sam Aulick (3.0 IP, 9 H, 9 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) (1-6) took the loss.
The two teams are slated to return to action on Monday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
