Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Downs West Virginia Wesleyan

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) had four goals and two assists, while junior attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) added four goals and an assist to lead Shepherd (11-6, 8-2 MEC) to a 22-3 win over West Virginia Wesleyan (5-12, 0-10) MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday.

Funke added game-high efforts of eight draw controls, six ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Junior midfielder Mallory Davila (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's  Ryken) had three goals and an assist and sophomore attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) had a  pair of goals and a game-high four assists.

Junior attacker Megan Dusci Walkersville, Md./Walkersville/Frederick CC), junior attacker/midfielder Jordan Sauro (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Shippensburg), freshman midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century), and freshman defender Madeline Soper (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each recorded a pair of goals. Freshman midfielder Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) contributed three assists, while junior defender Lyric Feingold-Conaway (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) netted her first career goal.

Madeline Gorza, Madison Duvall, and Loveley Ordonez-Lopez each scored a goal for the Bobcats.

Shepherd had a 53-8 edge in shots and a 19-7 advantage in draw controls. Shepherd had a 28-17 edge in ground balls. Shepherd was 15-of-18 in clears, while West Virginia Wesleyan was 11-of-20.

Freshman goalkeepers Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (2 saves)  and Jordan Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) (0) each played a half for the Rams. Gabrielle Cleaveland (8), Samantha Mise (11), and Faith Hammerbeck (0) combined for 19 saves for the Bobcats.

The second-seeded Rams return to action next Friday when they face third-seeded Wheeling Jesuit in MEC Tournament semifinal action at UVa-Wise. Game times will be announced tomorrow.
