SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior defender Tongwa Aka (Laurel, Md./CCBC Essex) and junior forward Carlos Castillo (Columbia/Blue Ridge CC) each scored a goal to lift Shepherd to a 2-0 win over Frostburg State in men's soccer action in the season opener for both schools on Thursday at Shepherd.
Aka scored on a bicycle off a corner kick from sophomore forward Steven Zeballos Choque (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) at the at the 53:29 mark to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
The Rams added an insurance goal when Castillo found the back of net on an unassisted tally at the 64:39 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jose Machado Orrellana (Falls Church, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) recorded four saves in a shutout effort for the Rams. Joe Assal had a pair of saves for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State had a 14-11 edge in shots, while corner kicks were even at nine apiece.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Findlay for an 11 a.m. game.
