SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Matt Cerruti scored a game-high 29 points and hit the game-winning jumper in the game's final seconds to lift Lock Haven (6-7, 3-6) to a 73-72 win over Shepherd University (6-9, 2-7) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a team-high 21 points to pace the Rams. Lang hit on 8-of-20 field goals with a 5-of-14 performance from beyond the arc. He added eight rebounds and three assists.
Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 16 points and eight boards, while junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) also tossed in 16 points. Freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) was in double figures with 11 points. Freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) handed out a game-high five assists.
Trevor Leucona had 12 points and Eli Washington added 11 for the Bald Eagles. Nasir Campbell added nine points and eight boards.
Lock Haven had a 38-34 edge at the half.
The game had 18 lead changes and five ties. The Ram led by 10 points at 69-59 after a layup by Daggett with 3:39 to play. Lock Haven rallied with a 12-0 run to take a 71-69 lead after a pair of free throws by Cerruti with 27 seconds left. Lang drained a three with 12 seconds remaining to give Shepherd a 72-71 advantage.
Shepherd connected on 42.9 percent (27-63) from the floor with a 36.1 percent (13-36) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 83.3 percent (5-6) of their free throws.
Lock Haven shot 49.1 percent (26-53) from the floor with a 48 percent effort (12-25) from three-point range. The Bald Eagles shot 90 percent (9-10) from the charity stripe.
The Rams had a 33-31 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced 11 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host East Stroudsburg for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
