SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) scored a game-high 18 points to lead Shepherd (11-4, 5-4) to a 71-64 win over Lock Haven (8-6, 5-4) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Beeman connected on 7-of-15 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-5 from the foul line. Beeman also dished out a game-high six assists.
Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) and junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) each added 16 points for the Rams. Clayton hauled down a game-high nine rebounds, while McLaughlin grabbed eight boards and added four assists.
Marena Lonardi and Jaynelle Robinson each scored 13 points for the Bald Eagles. Robinson also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Nadia Romanchock and Ahnera Parker Jasper each tossed in 11 points.
Shepherd had a 32-30 lead at the half behind 12 first-half points from McLaughlin.
Shepherd saw a 10-point lead dwindle down to a two-point advantage at 57-55 after a layup by Bink Redman with 5:13 left in the contest. The Rams closed the game on a 14-9 run to seal the victory. Beeman had six points and a pair of assists to key the run.
Shepherd shot 48 percent (24-50) from the floor with a 40 percent effort (8-20) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 75 percent (15-20) of their free throws.
Lock Haven hit on 36.9 percent (24-65) from the floor with a 12 percent effort (3-25) from three-point range for the game. The Bald Eagles connected on 76.5 percent (13-17) of their free throws.
Lock Haven had a 38-31 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 19.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host East Stroudsburg for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
