Shepherd Women Fall to East Stroudsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Tiffany Lapotsky scored a game-high 26 points to lead East Stroudsburg (11-5, 7-3) to a 59-56 win over Shepherd (11-5, 5-5) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday evening.

Junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored a team-high 19 points to pace the Rams. She hit on 8-of-15 field goals with a 1-of-2 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line.

Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) added 17 points and tied McLaughlin with a team-high three assists.

Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's)  added eight points and seven boards, while sophomore guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) tied East Stroudsburg's Julia Kutz with a game-high nine rebounds. Graduate student forward Anna Ross (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaker Heights/WV State) contributed nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Jordan Hertz added 13 points for the Warriors. Abby Schoffstall tossed in 12 points.

Shepherd had a 31-30 lead at the half behind 13 first-half points from McLaughlin.

The Rams took their last lead of the game on a three-pointer by Beeman at 56-54 with 4:43 left. The Warriors tied the game with 4:21 remaining on a jumper by Schoffstaff and took the lead for good at 58-56 on a pair of free throws by Schoffstaff with 2:09 left. Hertz hit 1-of-2 free throws with six seconds left and Shepherd's last-second three-point attempt was off the mark.

Shepherd shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor with a 30 percent effort (6-20) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 50 percent (4-8) of their free throws.

East Stroudsburg hit on 37.5 percent (18-48) from the floor with a 40 percent effort (4-10) from three-point range for the game. The Warriors connected on 86.4 percent (19-22) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 41-32 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Millersville for a 1 p.m. contest.
