MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) scored a team-high 21 points and added a game-high six assists to lead Shepherd (12-5, 6-5) to an 80-71 win over Millersville (5-11, 2-9) in PSAC women's basketball action at Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
Beeman connected on 7-of-15 field goals and was 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and tied Beeman with a game-high three steals. Sophomore guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) contributed 12 points and five boards.
Lauren Lister scored a game-high 22 points for the Marauders. Olivia Mottern added 14 points while Courtney Dimhoff and Olivia Richardson each tossed in 13.
The Rams led by as many as 15 points in the final quarter but saw MIlleresville rally to within four points at 75-71 after a three-pointer by Mottern with 1:24 left. Shepherd hit 5-of-6 free throws in the game's final minute to cap the victory.
Shepherd shot 51.6 percent (33-64) from the floor with a 23.1 percent effort (3-13) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 68.8 percent (11-16) of their free throws.
Millersville hit on 41.7 percent (25-60) from the floor with a 42.9 percent effort (9-21) from three-point range for the game. The Marauders connected on 75 percent (12-16) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 41-26 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 16.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Mansfield for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
