SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a game-high 24 points to lead Shepherd University (9-10, 5-8) to a 76-63 win over Kutztown (8-11, 6-7) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Lang hit on 8-of-14 field goals with a 6-of-9 effort from three-point range. He drained 2-of-2 free throws. Lang tied freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) with a game-high four assists.
Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) added 17 points. Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) had nine points and six boards, while sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) scored eight points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Wesley Butler tied Lang for game-high scoring honors with 24 points to pace the Golden Bears. Kyree Generette had nine points, while Josh Townsend added six points and a team-high eight boards.
Shepherd had a 33-30 lead at the break as Lang (8) and Jones (9) combined for 17 first-half points. The Rams would maintain the lead throughout the second half.
Shepherd connected on 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor with a 43.3 percent (13-30) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 69.2 percent (9-13) of their free throws.
Kutztown shot 39.1 percent (25-64) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (3-15) from three-point range. The Golden Bears shot 83.3 percent (10-12) from the foul line.
Kutztown had a 41-33 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced seven turnovers and committed a season-low three.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Shippensburg for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
Notes: Shepherd improved to 7-3 in home contests … Lang scored 20 points or more for the seventh time this season … the Rams are now 7-2 in Saturday games this season.
