SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – John Castello scored 25 points and Jake Biss added 22 to lead 24th-ranked Shippensburg (17-3, 10-2) to an 80-68 win over Shepherd University (9-11, 5-9) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Castello added a game-high 12 rebounds for the Raiders.
Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) led the Rams with 13 points. Sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) tossed in 11 points, while junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) had 10.
Dom Sleva added 12 points and Kiyon Hardy had 10 for the Raiders.
Shepherd opened the game on a 10-2 run and took a 35-34 lead into the break.
The Raiders took the lead for good at 49-47 on a layup by Sleva with 11:52 remaining.
Shepherd connected on 42.9 percent (27-63) from the floor with a 32 percent (8-25) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 60 percent (6-10) of their free throws.
Shippensburg shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the floor with a 41.7 percent effort (10-24) from three-point range. The Raiders shot 92.3 percent (12-13) from the foul line.
Shippensburg had a 35-33 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced six turnovers and committed seven.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. contest.
