Bloomsburg Rallies Past Shepherd Men

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.  –  Travis Elmore scored a game-high 33 points to lead Bloomsburg (6-7, 3-4) to an 83-75 win over Shepherd University (6-7, 2-5) in PSAC men's basketball action at Bloomsburg on Monday night.

Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) led the Rams with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) fired in 17 points, while freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added a career-high 16 points and six boards. Sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) was also in double figures with 11 points.

Ky Mauras added 16 points and eight assists for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg had a 38-29 lead at the break.

Shepherd opened the second half on a 15-2 run and had a 44-40 lead after a pair of free throws by senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) with 15:21 remaining. Bloomsburg took the lead for good at 68-66 on a pair of free throws by Elmore with 3:49 left. 

After Bloomsburg built a seven-point advantage, the Rams rallied to within four points at 79-75 after two free throws by Jones with 55 seconds left. The Huskies hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final minute to cap the win.

Shepherd connected on 51.9 percent (28-54) from the floor with a 22.7 percent (5-22) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 70 percent (14-20) of their free throws.

Bloomsburg shot 58.8 percent (30-51) from the floor with a 16.7 percent effort (1-6) from three-point range. The Huskies shot 68.7 percent (22-32) from the charity stripe.

Bloomsburg had a 31-26 rebounding advantage. Each team had 14 turnovers.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to California (Pa.) for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
