CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Zyan Collins scored a game-high 23 points to lead California University of Pennsylvania (9-5, 5-3) to a 74-61 win over Shepherd University (6-8, 2-6) in PSAC men's basketball action at California on Wednesday night.
Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) and freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) each scored 17 points to lead the Rams. Lang added a team-high 10 rebounds to post a double-double.
Sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 10 points, while junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) chipped in with nine. Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) grabbed nine boards to go along with five points.
Brent Pegram added 16 points, while Luke House had 15 for the Vulcans. Tim Smith Jr. added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Cal had a 42-24 advantage at the break.
Shepherd connected on 40 percent (24-60) from the floor with a 34.4 percent (11-32) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 33 percent (2-6) of their free throws.
Cal shot 46.8 percent (29-62) from the floor with a 40 percent effort (10-25) from three-point range. The Vulcans shot 100 percent (6-6) from the charity stripe.
The Vulcans had a 39-32 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced seven turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. contest.
