BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) scored 23 points and junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 20 to lead Shepherd (10-3, 4-3) to a 69-59 win over Bloomsburg (6-5, 3-4) in PSAC women's basketball action at Bloomsburg on Monday night.
Beeman hit on 8-of-15 shots with a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-5 from the charity stripe. Clayton was 9-of-19 from the floor with a 2-of-2 effort at the foul line. Beeman added a game-high nine assists and tied for game-high honors with four steals. Clayton contributed seven rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots.
Freshman guard Jordan Smith (Manassas, Va./Colgan) scored 12 points, while junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) tossed in 10.
Graduate student forward Anna Ross (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaker Heights/WV State) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds
Emma Saxton had 12 points, while Megan Brandt added 10 points and four steals to lead the Huskies. Taylor Montana added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Shepherd had a 40-33 lead at the half as Beeman (16) and Clayton (10) teamed up for 26 first-half points.
Shepherd shot 41.3 percent (26-63) from the floor with a 66.7 percent effort (8-12) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 81.8 percent (9-11) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg hit on 38.1 percent (23-60) from the floor with a 30 percent effort (3-10) from three-point range for the game. The Huskies connected on 47.5 percent (10-21) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg had a 44-36 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 19 turnovers and committed 14. Shepherd had 12 steals and Bloomsburg recorded 10.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to California (Pa.) for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Notes: Beeman scored 20 points or more for the sixth time this season … Clayton posted her fourth effort of 20 points or more this year … Anna Ross is averaging 8.3 rebounds for the Rams in the last three games … Beeman played all 40 minutes for the fourth time this season.
