SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a team-high 18 points to lead Shepherd University (11-12, 7-10) to an 83-78 win over West Chester (15-8, 9-8) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Lang connected on 6-of-13 field goals with a 6-of-12 effort from beyond the arc. He added a pair of assists to reach 300 for his career.
Freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 15 points, while junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) had 13 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) was also in double figures with 11 points.
Robbie Heath scored a game-high 28 point to lead the Golden Rams. Tim Toro added 15 points and nine boards, while Matt Dade tossed in 11 points.
The game was tied at 38-all at halftime.
A close game throughout, Shepherd took the lead for good at 69-66 on a three-pointer by Lang with 6:47 left.
Shepherd connected on 45.6 percent (26-57) from the floor with a 50 percent (19-38) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 70.6 percent (12-17) of their free throws.
West Chester shot 47.5 percent (28-59) from the floor with a 40.9 percent effort (9-22) from three-point range. The Golden Rams shot 65 percent (13-20) from the foul line.
West Chester had a 36-31 edge on the boards. Shepherd forced 14 turnovers and committed 13.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
