Shepherd Men Top Kutztown for Third Straight Win

KUTZTOWN, Pa.  –  Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) had scored a team-high 18 points to lead Shepherd University (12-12, 8-10) to a 70-59 win over Kutztown (10-14, 8-10)  in PSAC men's basketball action at Kutztown on Saturday.

Daggett connected on 8-of-10 field goals with a 2-of-2 effort from the foul line.

Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) had 10 points, while freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added nine points, a game-high seven assists, and five boards.

Tarojae Brake had a game-high 21 points to lead Kutztown. Wesley Brake added 13 points and Facundo Arens added seven points and seven rebounds.

Shepherd had a 31-29 lead at halftime.

Kutztown cut a nine-point Shepherd lead down to four points at 63-59 after a jumper by Brake with 2:21 remaining in the game. The Rams closed the game on a 7-0 run to cap the win. Lang hit a three-pointer while sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) each hit a pair of free throws during the run.

Shepherd connected on 45.6 percent (26-57) from the floor with a 27.6 percent (8-29) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 90.9 percent (10-11) of their free throws.

Kutztown shot 35.5 percent (22-62) from the floor with a 42.1 percent effort (8-19) from three-point range. The Golden Bears shot 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 40-32 advantage on the boards. Shepherd forced seven turnovers and committed nine.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Millersville for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
