SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) scored a career and game-high 38 points to lead Shepherd (19-6, 13-6) to a 96-62 win over Millersville (8-17, 5-15) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Beeman connected on 14-of-18 shots with a 5-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. She was 5-of-5 from the foul line. Beeman added a game-high five assists.
Junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) had 20 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Lauren Lister scored 26 points to lead the Marauders. Mia Leonard added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Shepherd opened the game on a 20-8 run and had a 45-31 lead at the half. Beeman (20), Clayton (10), and McLaughlin (8) combined for 38 first-half points.
Shepherd shot 57.8 percent (37-64) from the floor with a 57.1 percent effort (12-21) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 83.3 percent (20-25) of their free throws.
Millersville hit on 40.4 percent (23-57) from the floor with a 13 percent effort (3-23) from three-point range for the game. The Marauders connected on 65 percent (13-20) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 38-29 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 18 turnovers and committed 13. Shepherd had 13 steals and Millersville had six.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 1 p.m. contest.
