Shepherd Women Topped by Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.  – Ariel Jones scored a game-high 32 points to lead Shippensburg (20-7, 17-4) to a 69-59 win over Shepherd (19-8, 13-8) in PSAC women's basketball action at Shippensburg on Wednesday night.

Freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) scored a team-high 25 points to pace the Rams. Beeman connected on 9-of-24 shots with a 3-of-10 effort from beyond the arc. She was 4-of-4 from the foul line. Beeman added a team-high four assists.

Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 15 points and 14 rebounds to post her ninth double-double of the season.  She added four blocked shots. Her 14 rebounds tied a career-high effort.

Sophomore guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added six points, five boards, and three steals.

Kryshell Gordy added nine points and 10 boards, while Aunbrielle Green added six points and 12 rebounds for the Raiders

Shippensburg had a 31-27 lead at halftime.

Shepherd trailed by just three points at 43-40 at the end of three quarters. Shippensburg outscored Shepherd, 26-19, in the final stanza to pull away for the victory

Shepherd shot 34.8 percent (23-66) from the floor with a 19 percent effort (4-21) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 100 percent (9-9) of their free throws.

Shippensburg hit on 28.4 percent (19-67) from the floor with a 26.7 percent effort (4-15) from three-point range for the game. The Raiders connected on 77.1 percent (27-35) of their free throws.

Shippensburg had a 51-41 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 22. Shepherd had nine steals and Shippensburg had eight.

The Rams wrap up regular season play on Saturday when they host Mansfield for a 1 p.m. contest.
