SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a game-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University (14-14, 10-12) to an 89-73 win over Mansfield (6-21, 5-17) in PSAC men's basketball action on Senior Day at the Butcher Center on Saturday. Lang drained three three-pointers to up his season total to 107 to break his previous Shepherd mark of 105 set last season.
Lang connected on 5-of-10 field goals with a 3-of-8 effort from three-point range. He was 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) fired in 14 points and dished out a game-high four assists. Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 12 points, while sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) had seven points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Rams.
Trevor English led Mansfield with 18 points. Taylor Sweeney added 12 points and Mike Rell had 11.
Shepherd had a 54-32 lead at halftime with Lang (15) and Daggett (8) combining for 23 first-half points.
Shepherd connected on 55.2 percent (32-58) from the floor with a 47.8 percent (11-23) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 82.4 percent (14-17) of their free throws.
Mansfield shot 39.4 percent (26-66) from the floor with a 30.8 percent effort (8-26) from three-point range. The Mounties shot 72.2 percent (13-18) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 40-32 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced six turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Millersville for first round action of the PSAC Tournament. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
