Shepherd Men Use Balanced Attack to Top Bloomsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  –  Freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored a game and career-high 23 points to lead five Rams in double figures as Shepherd University (10-12, 6-10) handed Bloomsburg (8-15, 5-12) an 85-74 setback in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Jordan connected on 7-of-10 field goals with a 4-of-4 effort from beyond the arc. He was 5-for-5 from the foul line. Jordan added a team-high five assists.

Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 20 points, while senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore), sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian), and junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) were also in double figures with 11 points apiece.

Max Wagner and Sam Saxton each had 15 points for the Huskies. Travis Elmore added 14 points and seven boards, while Ky Mauras added 10 points, nine boards, and seven assists.

Shepherd a 45-37 advantage into the break behind 12 first-half points from Jordan.

Shepherd saw a second-half double-digit lead fall to four points at 73-69 after a layup by Elmore with 3:41 left. The Rams ended the game on a 12-5 run to seal the victory.

Shepherd connected on 48.5 percent (33-68) from the floor with a 37.1 percent (13-35) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 100 percent (6-6) of their free throws.

Bloomsburg shot 52.5 percent (32-61) from the floor with a 33.3 percent effort (6-18) from three-point range. The Huskies shot 57.1 percent (4-7) from the foul line.

Bloomsburg had a 33-32 edge on the boards. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 10.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host West Chester for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
