Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Edges Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) scored four goals and senior attacker/midfielder Jordan Sauro (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Shippensburg) added three to lead Shepherd (3-0) to an 11-10 win over Frostburg State (1-2) in women's lacrosse action at Frostburg on Wednesday.

Senior attacker Emily Brown (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) added two goals. Sophomore attacker Haleigh Piccolo (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) and sophomore midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) each added a goal. Junior attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) recorded a pair of assists.

Sophomore defender/midfielder Paige Alexander (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods), freshman midfielder Molly McCook (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown), and  senior defender Lyric Feingold-Conaway (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each added an assist. Feingold-Conaway also contributed seven ground balls, five draw controls, and  a caused turnover,

Jordan Kenney had three goals to lead the Bobcats. Summer Cavey added two goals and two assists.

Shepherd had an 8-7 lead at halftime behind three first-half goals from Kelly.

The Rams got back-to-back goals from Kelly and Brown to take an 11-9 advantage with 11:07 left in the contest. Stephanie King scored for Frostburg State with 5:47 left to cut the lead to one. Sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded a save on a shot by Kenney as time expired to seal the win.

Frostburg State had a 28-21 edge in shots and had a 29-23 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd had a 15-8 advantage in draw controls. Shepherd was 15-of-22 in clears, while Frostburg State was 17-of-22.

Bennett recorded 16 saves for the Rams. Teresa Stabler posted four saves for the Bobcats.

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host nationally-ranked Lindenwood at 1 p.m. at Ram Stadium.
