MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) rushed 21 times for 185 yards and a score, and graduate student running back Chantz Swartz (Mifflin, Pa./Juniata/Lock Haven) added 17 carries for 52 yards and a pair of scores to lead #15/13 Shepherd (6-1, 3-1 PSAC East) to a 38-13 win over Millersville (2-5, 1-3 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Millersville on Saturday.
Millersville took a 7-0 lead when Randy Okungo recovered a punt in the end zone that was blocked by Tyler Monto for a score with 9:31 left in the first quarter.
Shepherd tied the game when junior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) teamed with sophomore wide receiver Josh Polce (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) on a 44-yard scoring strike with 14:16 left in the second quarter. Senior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.
The Rams took a 14-7 lead when Swartz scored on a one-yard plunge with 9:48 left in the second quarter.
August-Scriven connected on a 32-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 17-7 lead at the break.
Swartz opened up the second half scoring on a one-yard plunge with13:24 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 24-7 advantage.
Brown raced 50 yards for a score with 8:21 left in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 31-7.
Redshirt-sophomore running back Avaughn Holley (Pomfret, Md./McDonough) rushed two yards for a score with 2:13 left in the game.
Cole Klayman teamed with T'iar Young on a 38-yard scoring play as time expired for the Marauders.
Bagent completed 13-of-27 passes for 191 yards and a score. Klayman completed 17-of-38 passes for 128 yards and a score for Millersville.
Brown had two receptions grabs for 70 yards to pace the Rams. Christan Drayton had four receptions for 15 yards and Hakim Melvin added two grabs for 36 yards for the Marauders.
Shepherd amassed 450 yards of total offense, with 259 coming on the ground. Millersville had 164 yards of total offense.
Senior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) led the Rams with eight tackles (five solos). Graduate student defensive lineman Ricky Robinson (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) added five solos tackles. Isaiah Onuschak recorded 11 tackles (eight solos) for the Marauders.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Chester at noon for Homecoming.
Avaughn Holley had 10 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown.
