SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 19-of-27 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns, while junior running back Ty Hebron (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) had 11 carries for 174 yards and a pair of scores to lead #11 Shepherd (7-1, 4-1 PSAC East) to a 42-38 win over West Chester (5-3, 3-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action for Homecoming at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Hebron scored on a 26-yard scoring run with 9:28 remaining in the first quarter. Senior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.
Bagent scored on a two-yard keeper with 7:32 left in the first quarter to up the lead to14-0.
Shane Dooley teamed with Ja'Den McKenzie on an 18-yard scoring pass for West Chester with 3:39 left in the first quarter.
Hebron raced 84 yards for a score to give Shepherd a 21-7 lead with 13:25 left in the second quarter.
West Chester answered back when Dooley team with Dan Neuhaus on a 57-yard score with 11:15 left in the second quarter.
Seth Henry connected on a 19-yard field goal with 3:15 left in the half to cut the lead to 21-17.
Dooley teamed with Seth Degree on a 35-yard score with 12:07 left in the third quarter.
Shepherd answered back when Bagent teamed with freshman wide receiver Ryan Beach (Frederick, Md./Northwest) for a three-yard scoring toss with 10:45 left in the third period.
West Chester took a 31-28 lead when Dooley teamed with Rasheem James on a 14-yard scoring pass with 8:14 left in the period.
Bagent fired a 42-yard scoring strike to sophomore running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) with 7:07 left in the quarter to give the Rams a 35-31 lead.
Dooley fired a 39-yard scoring strike to Degree to give the Golden Rams a 38-35 lead with 2:17 left in the third quarter.
Bagent found graduate student wide receiver Josh Gontarek (New Market, Md./Linganore/Shippensburg) in the end zone for an 11-yard scoring strike with 12:47 left in the fourth quarter to provide the margin of victory.
West Chester drove inside the Shepherd 30-yard poised to take the lead, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete with just under a minute to play and the Rams ran out the clock.
Dooley completed 20-of-30 passes for 276 yards and five touchdowns for West Chester.
McKenzie had 17 carries for 83 yards to pace the Golden Rams.
Beach had five receptions for 58 yards to lead the Rams. Degree had seven grabs for 122 yards for the Golden Rams.
Shepherd amassed 429 yards of total offense. West Chester had 433 yards of total offense.
Senior defensive back Ponce Deleon (Greenbelt, Md./Montgomery Blair) recorded a game-high 17 tackles with 12 solo stops. Senior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) added 11 tackles (10 solos). Jackson Taylor recorded seven tackles (five solos) for the Golden Rams.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 2 p.m. game.
