HARRISONBURG, Va. – Jamia Hazell scored 15 points while Kiki Jefferson, Annalicia Goodman, and Steph Ouderkirk each added 12 to lead James Madison University to a 74-46 win over Shepherd University in exhibition women's basketball action at James Madison on Monday night.
Hazell hit on 4-of-6 field goals with a 7-of-8 effort from the foul line.
Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) scored 14 points to pace the Rams. Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) added nine points, a game-high 11 rebounds, and a team-best three steals. Senior guard Madi White (Hamilton, Va./Woodgrove) tossed in nine points on a 4-of-5 shooting effort.
Shepherd shot 33 percent (21-64) from the floor with a 15 percent effort (3-20) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 33 percent (1-3) of their free throws.
James Madison hit on 40 percent (27-67) from the floor with a 22 percent effort (4-18) from three-point range for the game. The Dukes connected on 62 percent (16-26) of their free throws.
JMU had a 50-39 edge on the boards. The Rams had 20 turnovers and forced 14.
Shepherd opens the 2021-22 regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 against Davis & Elkins at 5 p.m. at Frostburg State.
