SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (24-3) swept West Chester (22-8) in PSAC Volleyball Tournament action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night. The Rams posted a 25-21, 25-15, 30-28 win.
Junior outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md./Heritage Academy) recorded 12 kills and 13 digs to lead the Rams. Junior outside hitter Kitanna Rakestraw (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Indian Valley) added nine kills, while senior middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) and junior middle blocker Elyssia Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) each had six.
Defensively, Rakestraw, Ohmke, and Smith each posted six blocks.
Sophomore setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) had 30 assists, eight digs, and three aces, while redshirt-freshman defensive specialist/libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded a match-high 18 digs.
Julia Vreeswyk had 10 kills and Grace Whitney added eight to lead the Golden Rams. Jamie Byrne added 27 assists and 14 digs.
Shepherd rallied from a 24-20 deficit in the third set to secure the victory. Smith had three kills to fuel the rally and recorded back-to-back kills to end the contest.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they face Gannon at 5 p.m. in semifinal action of the PSAC Tournament at East Stroudsburg.
