FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) scored a game-high 20 points and senior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 17 to lead Shepherd University (2-1) to 76-64 win over Frostburg State (0-3) in men's basketball action at Frostburg State on Wednesday night.
McClain-Corley connected on 4-of-11 field goals with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range. He connected on 10-of-12 free throws.
Junior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) tied Preston for game-high rebounding honors with 10. Senior guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) added 11 points and a game-high four assists.
Jaylon Johnson had 14 points and five rebounds for the Bobcats. Agyei Edwards and Micheal Tate Jr. each scored 10 points.
The game featured 20 lead changes and 10 ties.
Clinging to a 60-58 lead with just over four minutes to play, Shepherd used a 7-0 run to take a 67-58 lead. Frostburg State countered with a pair of three-pointers to trim the lead 67-64 with 1:45 left.
Stephens drained a three and the Rams drained 6-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Shepherd connected on 45.5 percent (25-55) from the floor with a 40 percent (8-20) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 78.3 percent (18-23) of their free throws.
Frostburg State shot 33.8 percent (21-71) from the floor with a 22.2 percent effort (6-27) from three-point range. The Bobcats shot 62.5 percent (10-16) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 40-35 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 10 turnovers and committed16. Frostburg State had a 6-5 edge in steals.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lincoln for a 4 p.m. contest.
